I wish to make alerts in Oulook 2003 last longer than 30 seconds and
preferably permenant until I acknowledge them. This used to be the case on
previous versions of Outlook. Basically if I am away from my terminal for a
couple of minutes I do not want to miss an alert for an important meeting or
appointment.

There are two types of alerts - the blue desktop alert and the New Mail
alert message box.
see http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2005/20050405.htm for more info on
both.
