how can I lower a window to the bottom of the pile?

I really need a quick key to push a window to the back as
you can in unix systems.

Can anyone help?

Alt+Tab might get you what you want. It brings up a list
of all running apps and allows you to quickly switch
between them.

ALT-SPACE, N will do that.
