Pedro,

> I can't find this key:
> HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop

ActiveDesktop gets created when using Group Policy on XP Pro or when you
create the ActiveDesktop key using the Registry Editor in XP Pro or XP Home.

Anything in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE is machine wide. It doesn't matter who logs
on.

Anything in HKEY_CURRENT_USER relates to the current user that is logged on.

I do not have
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop
either.
-----

To add ActiveDesktop key and NoChangingWallPaper Value Name.

Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to >>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
Right click on Policies in the left hand pane, point to New and click Key.
Type or paste ActiveDesktop for the name.

If you end up with New Key #1 for the name, right click New Key #1, click
Rename and name it ActiveDesktop.

To create NoChangingWallPaper...
In the right hand pane of
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop
right click a blank spot, point to New and click DWORD Value.
Name it NoChangingWallPaper.
Double click NoChangingWallPaper and set the Value Data to 1.

If you end up with New Value #1 for the Value name, right click New Value
#1, click Rename and name it NoChangingWallPaper.
----------

If using XP Pro...
Open Group Policy...
Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | Click OK |
Navigate to >>>
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Display\
Prevent changing wallpaper

Prevent changing wallpaper explanation...
[[Prevents users from adding or changing the background design of the
desktop.
By default, users can use the Desktop tab of Display in Control Panel to add
a background design (wallpaper) to their desktop.
If you enable this setting, the Desktop tab still appears, but all options
on the tab are disabled.
To remove the Desktop tab, use the "Hide Desktop tab" setting.
To specify wallpaper for a group, use the "Active Desktop Wallpaper"
setting.
Also, see the "Allow only bitmapped wallpaper" setting.]]
