How can I get Windows XP to install LPT1 and LPT2 so that
I can print something?

I have just updated from Windows ME and now are unable to
print anything eith to my Epson Stylus Color 850 or my HP
Deskjet 500. NO changes have been made to the set up or
cords between computer and printers. No network or other
additional hardware has been installed. Just installed
XP (Home edition)

I have installed and reinstalled both printers using the
XP Maker's Names and Model numbers and Windows XP printer
drivers.

On checking the Ports I find I have Com 1 and Com 2 but
no LPT1 or LPT2

I can't print a Test Page for either printer or can I
print from WordPad or NotePad

I have followed through every troubleshooting path
without success. Each printer prints its own a test page
perfectly. (Without being connected to the computer) And
of course everything printed perfectly when using Windows
ME

To make it all the more mysterious, Every trial printer
installation has now resulted in 6 Epson printers and 3
HP Deskjet printers appearing in Printer and Other
Hardware option / View Installed Printers... and try as I
may I can't delete any of them, using either
RightClicking the printer icon then Delete OR
LeftClicking the printer icon then under Printer Tasks
clicking on Delete this printer/YES.

Can anybody help? Has anybody had this trouble? -- I've
tried everything I can think of. Do I have a faulty XP
Program Disk? OR Have I missed doing something?

Thanks!

Clarrie
