I would like to insert page numbers in my PowerPoint presentation. Can I
insert page numbers so that they read "Page # of #"? For example, "Page 1 of
10".

I'd recommend Bill Dilworth's Slide XX of YY add-in, as PPT doesn't do this
natively. http://billdilworth.mvps.org/Add-ins.htm

You need to make a text box where you want the slide number to show. Then go
to Insert --> Slide Number. It will automatically insert the number of that
slide. The easiest thing to do after that is to copy the box and then past in
the others. It will change the slide number automatically and past it at the
same location as the first.

But that doesn't give you the total number of slides for the "## of ##"
format. You could put that in manually.

Do what I said, but when you make the first text box on the first or second
page and then go to Insert --> Page Number it will automatically put a "1" in
the box. Behind the one type in the rest: "1" add "of ##" or how ever you
want it to read. Then copy that box and past it into the others. The page
number will advance automatically with the total number of pages still behind
it.

Popping in here (hijacking) to say I have also been really struggling with a
similar problem. I needed an extra first slide (not numbered) with a title
and subject list to add to my quiz as a cover slide. I needed my other
slides to retain the original numbering and it was proving difficult! !
After reading the responses, I then re-numbered my first slide "0" going to
>Insert >slide number. Slides numbered 1 -- 8 renumbered all of my slides

automatically. Magic. I managed absolutely fine. It may sound so easy, but
believe me the info that you all give to this group is marvellous.

Thank you
