I am having a problem trying to import my old Outlook Express mail into my
new installation on Vista's Windows Mail program.

Here's how I'm trying to do it:

In Windows Mail, click on File/Import/Messages. In the new dialog, select
'Microsoft Outlook Express 6'. Click NEXT, select 'Import mail from and OE6
store directory', click OK.

I then browse to the folder where my DBX files are stored, click SELECT
FOLDER, then click NEXT.

At this point I get the following error message:

"No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running
that has the required files open. Please select another folder or try
closing applications that may have files open."

I searched around and found a couple of possible solutions, such as making
sure the files are not set to read only, and ensuring that the folders.dbx
file is present, but those solutions don't work for me.

Please help!

Having identical problems, as I posted in another message. Most of
the help links that I've gotten assume that I am able to see the .dbx
files, but instead I get the same error message that the other poster
does. Also have the same problem when trying to import onto another
networked computer using XP and OE, so it doesn't seem to be a Vista
problem.

WinMail has a tendency to screw up the path to the DBX files. See:

Many many thanks Frank. Your post solved my problem. It was a path problem
(showing d:\outlook express\outlook express\)

Regards,

Mike.

You may have the same (now solved!) problem as I was having. Check out this
text from a solution here: http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx

"..use the Browse button to browse to the directory of dbx files. Make sure
that when you set the directory that what is listed in the path is correct
(NOTE: Vista can put the wrong path in here sometimes, so instead of
c:\mypath it puts c:\mypath\mypath, so check the path to verify that it is
correct, and if it is not correct then fix it by clicking the Browse button
a second time and then leave the selection blank and clicking Okay.)."

Mike.
