Hi, since a recent power outage i haven't been able to
reconnect to my wireless Linksys router. Well, not even
that exactly. (I'm running Windows XP Pro) It says I
have a very strong connection, but I can not connect to
the internet.
I am able to send "packets" of information, but can only
receive any when I am pinging my router or change my IP
address. My router does not have data encryption, I've
changed my settings to a static IP similar to my router's,
I can ping my router, but I can't get any response when I
type http://###.###.### (IP addy) When I set my IP to
automatic detection, it reverts back to the 164.nonsense
that is in a previous post
Does anyone have any ideas? When I spent an hour on the
phone with Linksys support, they said that the Windows'
Hotfixes could be the problem, but I really don't want to
spend $35 to talk to Microsoft support when they might not
even solve the problem. Please help me!

You gotta love these folks. Of course it's a problem with
the Linksys router. What is happening is the router is
not accepting the ip renew configuration from your
cable/dsl modem. Try unplugging your router and leave it
unplugged for about 10 minutes, if that doesn't work, does
your router have a reset switch that will restore all
configurations back to default. Try going into your
router configuration and see if it has a option to release
and renew the ip address from the gateway (modem).
Chances are this is your problem.
