I have a 3 year old pc which came with windows..poblem is this key will only
work with older install cd`s, so when i install i have to spend the next hour
or 2 downloading sevice packs and windows updates.....

would be eaier if i could get a updated pro key that works with say a sp2
intall cd.

is this possible?

its a dell BTW!. (LOL)

You can slipstream SP2 into your XP CD, I did it using Autostreamer from
here:
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=223562
Have also come across this:
http://integrator.siginetsoftware.co...x.php?download
to slipstream post SP2 updates.
I haven't tried it as yet, has anyone else or can someone suggest another
way?

I slipstreamed SP2 to my original XP copy (retail) a few years ago using
Autostreamer (slipstreaming details are available on my website at this
link: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how...pstream_cd.htm )
worked fine for me. In fact i still use the slipstream CD if i need to
re-install XP. This isn't very often now because i image the drive and
restore from an image.

In addition to the other posts, you can also add post SP2 updates to the
slipstreamed CD. Google for links on how to do this. As to your original
question, no you can't get "a updated pro key", unless you buy a new copy
with SP2.
