What do you mean by "purge"? File or delete?
If you have a folder to file into, you could select the completed ones and
drag them to the filing folder.
So if you have a .pst (eg Archive), make a Tasks Folder in it and stuff them
in there if you want to keep them. When making the new folder change the
setting Folder contains items of type... to say Tasks. The exact wording
depends on your version which you failed to post.
