Hi all,

I was dual booting with Linux now I want Windows XP Pro take over the
drive. So I need to fix my MBR on my Laptop. I don't have the install CD
(only Recover CD) so Recovery Console is out. Is there any other way to
recover my MBR without reinstalling.

TIA!
Dan

You can boot the machine with a Win98 boot diskette or CD from
www.bootdisk.com, then type this command:

fdisk /mbr

BTW, running your machine without an installation CD is a risky thing.
Sooner or later you'll need it. Better to get one now while everything is OK
instead of waiting until the machine has failed.

A problem with Vista is that if your PC doesn't have a DVD reader,
you're stuck.
M$ has a downloadable .iso that lets you boot a CD into Vista recovery
console.

It's rumored to work with XP, but I've never tried it.
Maybe one of the experts can say...or if there's a similar download for
xp...other than just downloading a full xp torrent and burning that CD.

You can use any bootable XP CD for this purpose, Home or Pro. It doesn't
matter if it isn't the same type as your installation; you aren't
installing.

In other words, you can borrow an XP CD do perform this task.

It seems that you want to get rid of Linux and use the drive /disk
under Windows XP, but I was not sure. If this is what you want to do,
the best and simplest way is to boot using your Linux installation CD
and remove the Linux installation. This procedure will avoid trouble
with the bootloader that Linux would have created.
