if you have a digital camcorder and an external HD, both with
1394/firewire connections, can you use the both at the same time?
That is can you capture (no encoding) from you camcorder to the
external HD.

staples has a maxtor Y01J080 7200rpm 80 GB external hard drive for
$99.94 that i am thinking about buying.

Does anyone have any opinions on this drive. I want an external
drive, but i don't really know anything about them. I have read some
of the posts about "enclosures". What is an enclosure? Is it an
internal drive put in a case and connections?

i'm a newbie, so be gentle.
