I have installed Vista Ultimate on drive L: with my original XP MCE on drive
C:
I want to run both copies until I know all my apps will work (& installed)
with Vista. I have installed Office 2007 on both partition/OS's. Can I share
my data and account information in outlook when running Vista?
Thanks in advance for any help someone could provide~

Sure, as long as it's in a folder both operating systems can access.

OK, but I can't see or access the \local settings\ directory under \user\
directory on the XP partition when trying to "add" folder in outlook.

You would need to setup the Vista Outlook to use the same data file
It might be prudent to move your origonal outlook.pst (with OL closed) to a
location outside the 'Documents & Settings' grouping

Then you either need to change the permissions of that folder in XP, or move
the pst file to a folder to which both Operating systems have full
read/write access....

Thanks, DL, it took a while but found if you open tools>options>mail
setup>datafiles>open folder it will open windows explorer to your data
files. Then close outlook and move/copy the files to a new location. I have
access to all my archive, pst, IMAP and POP3 accounts this way.
I posted this hoping someone else finds this information useful.
It saved me a bunch of time with many email accounts.

Mr. Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] LOL when he said : "Sure, as long as it's in
a folder both operating systems can access."
Shame on you Brian, they should take that MVP and shine a little light where
you need it.
(And then make you pay for your subscription to technet.)

And what was wrong with what Brian said? You've just done exactly that....

Like I said. While using XP, put the PST in a folder both operating systems
can access. Create a folder like C:\Outlook or L:\Outlook and put the PST
there.

How is what I said in any way inaccurate?

No Brian, what you said wasn't inaccurate. But in the adjacent thread you
started with "Like I said". You didn't say where or that you knew there was
a location problem/issue you only implied "that as long as you..."
The time you spent writing this response could have been applied to being
just a LITTLE more informative and saved me hours of time figuring it out
for myself. And it's true that the BEST learned lessons are one's that you
have to do or figure out for yourself. I appreciate everyone's assistance,
your included, thank you. Without your help I wouldn't know it could be
done. And I was hasty in assuming the mail accounts would work, it seems I
needed to recreate them and they default to a location on the Vista
partition. any clues?
Sincerely,
Ray
