Found it through Google -- don't know him; can't vouch for it. Use at
your own risk.

It wasn't under C:\Program Files\Common
Files\System\Mapi\1033\SCANPST.EXE?

Did you try extracting it out of the OFFICE1.CAB file on the install
CD?

That is correct ... ;-) it's not there ... and I just ran a DETECT AND
REPAIR (which, I thought, goes through and re-installs anything that's
missing ...) ???

Looks good! It found some errors ... but, I may need to run it a few times?
until it gets all the errors? ...

Shall I report back on it's effectiveness?

Ran it a few times in a row, until it said there were no longer any errors
found ... but, I still can't MOVE or DELETE any emails older than 09/2007 ...
this may be the time frame when I installed Office 2003 on this Vista
machine, then imported the pst file from my Office XP installation on our XP
- SP2 machine.

????

Completely at a a loss here ...

Clearly Office 2003 isn't going to work for me ... ???

Any more powerful repair tools available anywhere?

TIA

What happens when you try?
Empty your Deleted Items folder and try again.
If it doesn't work, create a new pst-file via File-> New-> Outlook Data
File... and copy your items from your damaged pst-file to the new one.

"Not there" apparently meant the path that I mentioned on the hard
drive. The file MUST be in the .cab file because that is where it
comes from during the install. So get it from the .cab file.
