I'd like to download ie7 from a computer that has dsl and transfer the
files to a computer that only has dialup. It looks like it's
impossible to do according to the microsoft site. Is there a way? If
not, I'll just switch over to firefox.

There is no option to download it as a file. I'm not on a xp machine.
All I want to do is download the file and copy it to my xp dialup
machine.

Using the download links on that page will get you a stand-alone file.

You would probably be happier with Firefox anyway. Not as many people
attacking it.

Firefox is probably just as good as IE7, perhaps better, although
Firefox is losing some cutting-edge technology. Many techs recommend
waiting until the end of the year for better security patches to IE7
before trying it out.

Firefox will give your cat warts. If you don't have a cat, you should be
okay.
