We are developing a brochure for our business, which will include existing
photos of some of the work that we've already done. Is that possible to do
in PowerPoint, and if not, what is the best software to use for it?

Yes. You can do a nice little brochure in powerpoint-- just be careful.
First take a piece of paper and FOLD it the way you want the brochure to be.
Then write on each fold a code letter for each section and SIDE OF THE PAPER.
Be sure to write the letters in the proper orientation-- up-side-up and/or
up-side-down-- the way you will need the letters to face on the finished
piece. Draft up on the same piece of paper what you want to say and how you
want to show your photos. This is important because when you tri-fold your
final brochure-- you are actually looking at side 2 section C first, followed
side 2 section A, and that opens up the center of side 1- section B.... get
the idea... numbering is important-- and depending on how you fold it, you
may have to have things upside-down electronically....

When you are ready, set-up a slide in powerpoint that resembles your
brochure draft (landscape or portrait) -- you will need 2 slides, one for
each side of the paper and you will need to becareful regarding your layout--
some of the sections will may require you to turn things upsidedown (photos
too) depending on your brochure. You need to remember that Powerpoint always
leaves a margin on a printed paper-- so you can align items with the edge of
a slide and still have a margin on the printed paper. You cannot "bleed off"
the edge of the paper using Powerpoint as a brochure-maker.

It may be helpful to you to go to Microsoft Office Templates and look at
some of the downloads they have. I'm sure they have a brochure section--
they seem to have everything.....

Publisher would be a much better option for creating a brochure.

Possible? Yes. The best choice? No. Business brochures are likely to best
be handled by a professional. However, if you want to do it yourself, the
best tools are likely to be something like Microsoft Publisher or
Microsoft Word. You can check out my handout on creating newsletters and
brochures in Word at:

You might also look into more difficult and more professional tools like
Quark and Adobe PageMaker.
