I'm running Windows 2000 Pro and trying to get Disk
Defragmenter to autostart. I can schedule the task, but
when started you still have to click on the "DEFRAGMENT"
button to get it going. Does anyone know how to get it to
run without having to click on that button? Let me know!

Cross-post when necessary, but never multi-post. Cross-posting is when you
include two or more groups in the "Newsgroups:" section. In this scenario
the message and all responses are seen in all groups that the message was
cross-posted to. In other words any replies will automatically propagate to
the other newsgroup posts.

Multi-posting is when you post the same message to two or more groups
individually. In this scenario the message is seen in the groups it is
posted to, but the responses are only seen attached to the message (unless
you cross-post the reply) in which the response was made. So those that
frequent these groups then need to deal with or re-read the posts. It may
seem like a small thing to keep track of. But some of us actively traverse
50 or more groups. The poster also then must search out all of the posts to
see if there was a response.

Hi Buddy,

What he is saying is that it takes a lot to time to answer everyone's needs and
multi-posting has more that one person working one your answer, when they could be helping
others. The net effect is that you may not get your question answered because someone else
has multi-posted.

Thanks, come back to see us.

I was under the assupmtion that nobody was
really "working" on all these issues - that this is more
of a "community" message board. The normal home/office
user can post problems they are having in hopes that
another normal home/office user would see their problem
and come up with a solution in a reply post. At any rate
I will take heed to your (and the other guys) request -
but my question still has not got answered. His signature
said Microsoft MVP - not too MVP if he couldn't say "and
by the way, here's how you fix this problem....". I guess
thanx for nothing....

Hi

But we mind if we have used time to answer your question in one group and when
we go into another group we find that you have multiposted to it and that
another person also have used time to answer you there as well. If you had
crossposted instead (to a few relevant groups, I would say max. three), it
would have been much better. See further below an extract from the help for the
Web interface to the newsgroups on how to crosspost in that interface...

For your original question:

AutoDeFrag is a free command line based wrapper of the Win2k defrag command:

http://www.webattack.com/get/autodefrag.shtml
http://www.morphasys.com/autodefrag/

And for the crosspost part in the help for the Web interface to the newsgroups,
under "Advanced options" in the "Post to a discussion group" section:

<quote>
To post in more than one discussion group, click Advanced Options,
and then type the additional discussion groups you want to post to
in the Cross-post to these discussion groups box.
</quote>

I don't think you can do it with the built in defragger. Diskkeeper and
Perfect Disk (which I use) can.

Find PD here: www.raxco.com
