I use mind maps to assist with memorising material for exams and would like
to input the data electronically so that I can manipulate the data.

I think Visio supports mind mapping, but you might be better off using a
programme specifically designed for it.

No, but the physical act of writing creates new pathways in the brain which
helps you remember what you wrote. And sometimes a mis-reading can be very
serendipitous....
