Backup will only make it on the floppy drive after back up but I need to be
able to create it on a CD, DVD or the independent hard drive where the backup
is stored! I can change the boot order in the bios to accommodate the absence
of a floppy so is there a way to do this please?

Unless you use Remote Installation Services, to do an ASR restore you
MUST use a floppy disk drive to supply the Asr.sif and Asrpnp.sif files
to the ASR restoration process. Fit a floppy diskette drive to the
computer or use another restore strategy. You might be able to use a
USB floppy drive but not all USB drives are compatible with the ASR
process, you will have to test your restore to see if it can recognize
the USB floppy drive.

Nope, no way around needing a floppy. Get a USB floppy drive and test it or
use a better backup solution such as a drive imaging program like Acronis
True Image or Norton Ghost. Create the images on an external, USB connected
hard drive.

Hi!

I had the same problem. Changing the USB floppy drive solved the
problem!!

Microsoft should by-the-way lists the "ASR compatible" USB Floppy
drives...

My server is a Dell PowerEdge 850 running W2K3 R2 standard.
My working model of USB FDD is :
FD-05PUB, made by TEAC electronics, produced by DELL.

Thanks!

You're welcome. Thanks for letting us know what worked for you. There
is a short list here of USB floppy drives that should work with ASR.
