My Lexmark X83 cable goes to a USB connection. Is there
any hardware to steer this printer to the parallel port
instead?

My Lexmark z53 has connections for both USB and Parallel cables.
Perhaps yours does also. If so, open the door from which the USB cable
proceeds, then attach a parallel cable to the printer and then to the
Computer. Make sure you use a deluxe parallel cable which is rated for
bi-directional printing

You must do the above with the computer in the OFF state.

Just checked Lexmark's site for the X83 printer. It says that the x83
only supports Standard USB. It says nothing about parallel connections.
If this is true, you will be unable to use this printer with a parallel
cable, unless the cable is especially designed to connect to the USB
port on the printer.
