Hiya,

I have a personal finance ledger going week to week. I'd like to write a
macro to change the colour of a range of cells (my bank balance) if the
number goes below a certain amount (my overdraft limit) to warn me.

How can I do this please? I have absolutely no idea how to write macros in
Excel.

You don't need macros...check out Conditional Formatting in help or under
the Format menu (up to 2003) or on the Home tab of 2007

Better to use conditional formatting then. It is found under the Formatting
menu.
