Saving locally and on the network is a slow experience with a excel sheeting
containing VBA. Excel is fully updated 2003 SP2. What can cause these slow
downs?

Some things that might...
Before save event code that has to run before the save commences.
Large workbook size.
A clogged up Windows | Temp file.
Saving as a multiple XL version workbook.
File corruption.
Bad or insufficient computer memory.
