Can I cache a folder full of shortcuts on my desktop?

This is a very unimportant question but I was curious. I have a bout 40
games on my computer. I have a games folder on my desktop that has
shortcuts to all of the games executables to start the games. It takes a
while when I open the folder before all the icons change over when I open it
the first time after booting. Is there a way to cache it or a better way
to do what I'm doing? I realize this is only gaming so it isn't critical
but I am curious.

Thanks

Since you are familar with the names of the games...
you don't really need the icons so why not change
the view to List?

A reasonable question - just easier for me to pick through the items with
the associated icon.
