I receive several pornographic photos each day, embedded in e-mail messages,
which I find offensive. How can I instruct my computer to block photos from
messages, unless I choose to see them?

You can disable HTML-display and view the mails as text-only. Or if the
images aren't embedden in the message itself but rather get loaded by
<img>-tags, you can set up rules in your firewall that prohibit port 80
trafic to/from hosts other that your http-mail-servers, if any. If all of
your accounts are pop3 you can block port 80 entirely.

Thanks Jonax, but treat me gently...! My accounts are all POP3 - how do I
block port 80?

Depends... What firewall are you using?

I don't have a firewall as such. I'm using NOD32 anti-virus protection

Let me answer that question again: I'm using Mozilla Firefox and NOD32

Ok, then you need to download and install a firewall - I like Kerio Personal
Firewall, which is free for personal use - you can get it here:
http://www.kerio.com/kpf_download.html

The manual is located here: http://www.kerio.com/supp_kpf_manual.html

If you need help configuring it, feel free to contact me on messenger, using
the following account: jonaxdk(at)msn(dot)com - but have a look at the manual
first...

Since you don't mention the version of outlook, I'll assume you are using
outlook 2003 and mean ones that are attached to the message, since 2003
blocks external downloads by default and many porn messages have the image
attached.

The best method is disabling html content - it's east to enable per message
in 2003 but if this is not acceptable or you use other versions of outlook,
enabling junk mail or getting a good antispam program is your next option.

if you use an older version of outlook, a good antispam program is probably
the best, since it can't block external contect.
