Can barely hear actors but music is loud on my new pc and system. Borrowed
dvd's from friend. Windows Media Player and XP. Stero pc-speakers. What
could be wrong? Tried changing most sound setting including mono...?

Use the other DVD player on your machine (Power DVD etc.)
You must have one or WMP would not be able to play DVD's.

Sounds like your 5.1 setup or something like that is messed up.

No, It's sounds exactly like a mixer issue.

I had this in BSplayer on my old Inspiron 7500. The effects and music in
(divx) movies was loud but voices were too faint. Ticking (or unticking) the
use mixer box in audio fixes the problem.

Yep...forgot about that one.

Also if you have "3D effect" or some other such in your
audio Mixer window, turn it OFF.
