I'm running XP SP2. I have two partitions of roughly the same size. One
is C: ACER and te other is D: ACERDATA. I have already put my personal
files on there (ie music docs etc.) but i want to know if i can backup
the C: partition on D:? Is it at all possible? Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Using a third party tool, eg Ghost or True Image its a simple operation.

Yes, you can but there's no big idea in it...
As it's the same physical disk, if it "goes down", your backup is gone, too.
Also, it takes a hell of a lot of time to make an image/backup FROM and TO
the same (physical) disk.

Get an external disk and backup to that, using, like DL said, something like
Acronis TrueImage (can be booted from CD to make image)
or Norton Ghost (can NOT make image outside of Windows)

During the initial setup the machine prompted you to create a backup
CD./DVD......did you??
You can still do that using the Acer Empower utility.....as a matter of fact
you can create that CD/DVD at any time
Backing up one patition onto another partition would only be helpfull if
those partitions were on seperate drives.
Acer also has a hidden partition that contains the OS and programs purchased
with the machine...I've managed to back this partition up using Acronis True
Image..

Ghost CAN be run by booting from a floppy or cd and does not require
Windows.
