I'm not exactly sure why it works. I was doing something a while back and somehow
when I clicked the OK button on the Run box, "My Computer" opened and I saw that
there were just three periods in the Run box. I just remembered when I saw your
question.
Here is the official way to create a shortcut to "My Computer":
Open "My Computer" with the tasks pane displayed (normal view):
%SYSTEMROOT%\explorer.exe ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
Open "My Computer" with the folder tree displayed (explorer view):
%SYSTEMROOT%\explorer.exe /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
