I'm looking for a very quick picture viewer. I have ACDSee 8 or 9,
and while it is very nice, it is very slow on my system. Besides, all
I need is a very quick viewer, and to be able to delete the pictures I
don't want to keep.

Sorry if this is off topic. I've looked at several different viewers
with no luck. I tried Picasso, but it looked to me as if you had to
load you pictures onto the net...... I don't know.

If you can suggest something, I'd be grateful. Commercial software is
ok, shareware is better and free is great. However, I do not mind
paying for something that meets my needs.

Thank you

E

I still use ACDSee 2.4 I find it small, fast and easy to use, found no need
to get a later version.

you can download it from www.oldversion.com

Good choice and there is also MS Picture and Fax Viewer which does what you
need to do. It can resize, set as desktop, do a slide show and a few other
things. It is also free. It is included in the MS Power Toys. Do a Google
for MS Power Toys and you should find it there.

Why don't you just change "folder view" to thumbnail?

I use Irfanview - it is small and fast, and has "save as"options for
converting to a multitude of formats. It also has a nice way of viewing
an entire folder in thumbnail view... easy to navigate and really
quick. It is free of charge shareware. (not open source)

Picasa doesn''t load your pics onto the net - only if you want to! - it
has the function to upload to a blog. What it does very well is surf
through your entire drive and index every single graphic file you have;
then it keeps track. It can use up a bit of resources, so if your
computer is a bit old or has too little RAM, then it's probably not a
good idea. It's a Google Labs project, so it's free of charge. (I
can''t remember if it's Free Software or Open Source, or just free of
charge.) It has some basic photo-fixing tools, like levels and red-eye
removal.

I would like to thank all the generous people who took the time to
reply to my request. Thank you a lot. I usually don't get such
helpful advice , and I almost always get some kind of derogatory
response. But not this time!
Thank you all

Eric
