Can anyone help with Norton and their infernal "ccapp.exe " proces

The situation is thus:

If I have my computer connected to the internet or just have some programs
open and then go to shutdown, the screen flashes and I get a "this program
isn't responding etc" thing with a progress bar to force shutdown of the
ccapp.exe process. Sometimes this pop-up window will follow through to the
end or only flash on briefly for a millisecond. I don't know whether that is
relevant or not, however, after this occurs the pc doesn't continue with the
shutdown process and just sits there. I can still do stuff (open up programs
etc), but i've noticed that my version of Norton Internet Security (2005)
will be the only program shutdown. Nothing else is, including the computer.
No matter how many times you click the shutdown button.

I've managed to find a Microsoft article on this at:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831431
However this is only meant to apply to the 2003 version of Norton
Anti-virus. Even the associated Norton help article:
-only refers to the 2003 version also. This is odd since i have the 2005
version and have never had the 2003 version installed on my system.

I abhor going the grueling un-install of Norton Anti-virus and their live
update process. If happens to be my only recourse. I may well give serious
consideration to scraping Norton next up-grade and go McAfeee or something. I
get the feeling that Norton's program is far too over-complicated for good
integration into the Windows operating system /sigh.

Any help with this matter would be much appreciated,

Thanks in advance ^.^ .

EDIT for grammatical errors:

"I abhor going through the grueling ..."

"If happens to be my only recourse, ..."

*blushes*

Couple of questions.

Did this start shortly after you installed Norton or did it appear some
time later?

Did you install Norton while in a Clean Boot?

If the answers are Yes and No, in that order, I would follow the
recommended instructions and removed Norton and reinstall. For both of
these steps, I strongly recommend you run either in a Clean Boot or Safe
Mode to be certain that there is nothing in memory that could potentially
conflict during the installation.
