I have finished a document with a large number of citations. I am using
chicago style to reference the literature. This style presents the citation
in the following way: (Author year).
In some cases, when there are two authors with same surname (it does not
matter the year), word adds the title to the reference, so it looks like
(Author, title year).
I know that If I add the swith \t to the citation, the title won't be
displayed. The problem I have is that I can't use the search and replace tool
because the fields are locked. Even after I toggle the field code on and
press the combination CTRL-SHFT-F11.
Does anyone knows if there is an automatic way I can add that swicth to all
my citations?

Hi Tony,

If you click right click on an inserted citation field there choose 'Edit Citation' and you can check the box for 'Suppress Title'
and it will be added to the field (Alt+F9 to toggle code and result)


Note that if you add the 'Field' choice to the Quick Access Toolbar by right clicking 'Fields' in Insert=>QuickParts, you can
manually enter Citation fields and switches by that method.

To unlock the existing Citation fields for editing you can use the
Developer tab and there turn on the 'Design Mode' button. If you don't have a Developer tab you can turn that tab on from
Office Button=>Word Options=>Popular

Once you're in Design mode you can use Word's replace (ctrl+H) to modify multiple fields.

I did not have idea of that Developer tab. Now I can edit those fields.
