I have an Asus A7V8X mobo. Currently according to Aida32 I have two
256mb SDRAM modules in both slot 1 and 3. Although I dont know if
these are 2700 or 3200.

My question is, can I add a 512mb 3200 module to slot 2 in this
configuration.

On the Asus site it says this "PC3200 Max. to 2 banks only" -

DDR400 Support
==============

DDR400 (PC3200), the latest and fastest DDR memory standard, supports
bandwidth up to 3.2GB/s to provide enhanced system performance. (Note:
PC3200 Max. to 2 banks only; PC2700 Max. to 4 banks only)

This says 'no' to me, but I never have understood the in's and out's
of RAM.

TIA,

Colin

Take out the two 256mb modules and add two 512mb. Why do you need more
memory anyway? What programs are you running that will make use of more RAM?

I play Battlefield 1942 and Desert Combat quite frequently, and the
maps take ages to load. All the posts I've seen about this problem
suggest that more RAM solves the problem. I also do a lot of image
editing on the PC and RAM is cheap these days so why not get more.

You will want to balance the MB's between the two channels. Make certain
that your speeds are the same for best performance. Put the two 256's on
one channel and the 512 on the other.
