Hello;

My daughter lives in Kansas City and telecommutes to a company in North
Carolina. She use a VPN connection over the internet to the company's server
then use NetMeeting to gain access to the PC on a desk at the North Carolina
company. She can access all of the systems, etc. in North Carolina from her
house in Kansas City.

She would like to add/configure a local printer which is connected to her
Windows XP machine at her Kansas City house to print documents from the
systems at the North Carolina company she accesses through NetMeeting.

Is this possible - if so how can I add a local printer in Kansas City to
print output from the North Carolina system? Thanks very much for your help!

I think so - though I didn't realize you meant this remote when I clicked on
this message! I thought you wanted to know how to print on a printer in
another part of the house.

I would think you would set it up the same way. If she sets up a local
network, puts her computer and her printer on it, and then sets up her
connection to connect to the local printer, I would think she should be able
to print.

I would also actually think that her net meeting or whatever software would
let her do anything on her home computer that she could do if she were
sitting in front of it, including print, without having to add the printer
to a network. That is certainly true of some other versions of that
software for using your computer from another location.

Either way, she'd have to try it and see if it works. And it might take
some tweeking. If alot of people at her company work from home and so
forth maybe her company's IP can help her.

Thank you for your help. I have already tried your suggestion about setting
up a local network. I must figure out how to tell the remove systems in
North Carolina to send the printer output back over the internet to Kansas
City and then to the local printer here.

Your daughter should check with the IT Dept. at her company to see how
to set this up.
