Can I add "cancel" to the Outlook close button dialog?

When I click the close button at the top of the Outlook window the only
alternatives offered are to delete messages in the deleted folder or not to
do so and either way the program shuts down.

That is a total pain for me !! I don't usually care if they are deleted
or not because more often than not I have clicked the close button by habit
-- what I really want is to move from Mail to Calendar or vice versa and I
only realise that when its too late and there is no escape !!

How can this be resolved ?

As I recall, if there is an e-mail in the Outbox folder that you get
reminded about it when you exit Outlook. So put an e-mail in there that
has no recipients specified (so it doesn't get accidentally) with a body
that reminds you its is an "exit confirmation" trigger that just stays
in there.

Create a new e-mail. Leave the To/Cc/Bcc fields blank. Put whatever
reminder text you want in the body of the e-mail. Hit Ctrl+S to save a
copy in the Drafts folder. Exit the new-mail compose window. Drag the
item from the Drafts folder to the Outbox folder. Because no recipients
are specified, you cannot accidentally select to send the pending item.

When you attempt to exit Outlook, you will get a 15-second reminder that
you still have items in the Outbox folder. Use Cancel to stay in
Outlook.
