I have slipstreamed SP2 with the Windows XP Pro installation files and
created a CD that works like a dream. However, I have changed my Adaptec
29160 card to an Adaptec 29320 card and find that the drivers for the new
card do not exist on the CD. Under I386 I can find a file called
adpu160M.sy_ , clearly this is the one used for the Adaptec 29160 card, but
there is nothing for my new card. Since I have a driver in the form of
adpu320.sys can someone please tell me how I can:-

1. convert this to the form used for installation - I presume adpu320.sy_ ?
2. slipstream this into the installation files - or do i just add it to the
I386 directory?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AFAIK, slipstreaming, as it is applied here to Windows
installations, refers only to updated files with the same
name as the original file in the pre-updated cdrom. There
is supposed to be a library file for the files located in
the installation folders, where they go and how they are
supposed to be installed. Hence, if the name for a file
is not in the library, the slipstreamed cdrom does not
know anything about it. Want to edit this library file?

AFIIK, the slipstream process can add files that did not exist in the
original installation. However, I do not know the process. The driver file
I need to incorporate (adpu320.sys) is only 130K in size and using WinRAR I
have produced a CAB file which is only 63K in size. I have added this to
the i386 directory and tried the install process. The system spots the
driver, mentions it as available but does not link this file to my SCSI
card. For this reason I sense you are certainly correct in stating that
there must be other files elsewhere (Library files) which instruct the
installation process how to proceed. If I knew where the Library files were
I could examine the instructions for adpu160M.sy_ (Adaptec 160 card) and try
to figure out what is required for my new card. So, I would be most
grateful for any help you can offer on where the Library files exist and how
I can edit them.

A couple of months ago, the magazine Maximum PC did an article where they
show how to slipstream SP2 and then how to add drivers to a new XP install
CD. So there must be a way!
