Can I accept tasks from an older version of Outlook

I am using Outlook 2003 and would like to accept, decline and update tasks
sent from a user of Outlook 2000. When the task request email appears from
the older version there does not appear to be an option to accept or decline.
Are these versions compatable and what do I need to do?
