Can I run a Opteron dual 165 or a opteron 144 in my asus A7V-deluxe
motherboard?

If you go to the CPU support page, and search by CPU (using
the menu in the middle of the page), this is what is
returned for the Opteron Dual. This is all the motherboards
supporting the Dual 165 with their necessary BIOS revisions.

The "AMD Opteron 146 (revE4) (Socket939)" returns the same list
of motherboards.

The A8V-MX is AGP and uses a K8M800. The Via webpage says

"AMD Athlon64 & Opteron Single/Dual Processor Support"

For the A8V and its K8T800, the Via webpage for K8T800 says

"AMD Athlon64, Athlon64FX & Opteron Single/Dual Processor Support"

so maybe all that the A8V or A8V Deluxe need, is a BIOS update.
It really depends whether there is some hidden issue with
the motherboard, with the Vcore providing adequate current,
and whether Asus is still interested in updating the BIOS.
Don't buy the motherboard, unless the processor you want
to use, is listed on the CPU support web page.

Is a Opteron 144 Socket 939 compatible with the A8R-MVP?

The Asus support site does not list is at part of the support. However
it lists the Opteron 146 (Rev e) - Socket 939 as supported with the
0201 Bios revision. How do I find out if the 144 has a Rev E?

I read somewhere that as long as the pins (939) are the same, it should
be compatible.
