Has anyone got around to making cameras that can record the GPS location of
the pictures as one goes along, so that they can be uploaded to Google Earth
for example without having to look up all the locations individually and
note the map or global references first?

I expect there are now phones that have both camera options and GPS, but are
there any dedicated cameras with this function?

This would make my wildlife picture filing and reporting a whole lot easier!

Thanks Gord and LJB,

The Ricoh really looks the business (no sign of a price though, so may be
some years before can afford!).

I've had so much hassle with the very very battery fussy Sony I already have
that I don't really want to stick with them for any next purchase.

As regards direction of shot, as my intention was that the pictures would
load straight into Google Earth it would be easy to orient the globe until
it duplicated the scene in the picture, thereby enabling comparison of site
change with date. However, I would imagine it would be no big deal for the
camera manufacturer to include the orientation data.

The future looks rosy for those of us who never get around to recording one
lot of pics before we take the next! (Only learning how to use the
technology and pay for it is going to be the bummer!)

A search turned up the Nikon D2X and an article I liked at

This camera accepts input from an external GPS unit.
