Callback Thread

I have a hardware, axes, that calls a callback function when it has
reached its new position.

I calling the move function from my GUI thread. How can I work out if
the callback is in a another thread?

To make the callback to be in an another thread must the caller create a
new thread or is this the way that C#/.NET works?
