I installed call of duty 2 today against vista's warning on it not being
supported . I was able to play singlr player fine but multiplaer crashes
every time. I have read several articles that say it is possible and have
done all the appropriate driver upgrades and still nothing. any ideas. I can
not for the life of me understand why vista would not be supportrd
considering the fact Cod2 is sill in the ranks of top ten most popular
games.

For Vista usage, you have to right click ont he multiplayer executable
(CoD2MP.exe) and select properties. Set the "compatibility mode" to Windows
XP SP2, and save. Now it should work.

I have been having the same problems. I installed the lastest Direct9.x then
changed the properties like what you have done, then i waited after the
splash screen and got a black screen, but this time i waited for a while and
it kicked in, i waited about a minute. Multi player will start like single
player with the activision screen appearing and then the movie plays, it
did't do that for me when i had it on XP, but im glad that it finally worked.
It seems to me that COD2 is very picky how it runs and works then other games
i installed. If you get in join the NapalmFun Server, its the best out their,
screen name {TFL}LAROCQUE.....see you their
