Calendar backup

Since I use Outlook calendar for all appointments, I am
concerned about losing it should my hard disk fail one
day (as it likely will). I back up all my important files
to a CDRW. Is there a way to back up the calendar?

I did "archive" it to the CD, but when I tried to open
it, a scary message warned me that doing so could damage
my computer. So I haven't opened that file.

Thanks for the help. Merry Christmas.

1. Outlook has the option of Import/Export data. Use this to export your
calendar and save them into <filename>.pst file. You can very well choose to
take the entire outlook data when exporting. There are options you can
choose to export. In outlook, choose File -> Import and Export option.

2. at what situation you get the message 'could damage the computer'. as
well, what were you trying to open and you got the message. needs more
detail.

Good luck.

All of your data is stored in a file with a .PST extension. Look here for
all the information you need on backup and restoration of Outlook data:

http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm

..PST files can only safely be opened from within Outlook. Attempting to
open a .PST file from another program or from Windows Explorer should not
damage your computer (I suspect the error message had to do with something
else), but it could damage the .PST file. See
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/readarchive.htm for the safest method for
opening an archived .PST file (if you want to look in one that's not in use
as your default). Oh, and .PST files can't be read only if Outlook is to
use them, so you'd need to copy them off your CD and remove the read-only
attribute before attempting to open them.
