Calendar Archive Questions

I have more than 10 years of data in my Outlook calendar which makes it
very large. I sneakerware the whole calendar from office to home on a
regular basis so that both are up to date.

I would like to archive, say five years, on a one time basis so that I
didn't have to carry that portion but could access it at any time from
either computer. I would just carry the more recent data.

Could someone explain how do to a "one time" archive of a calendar. I am
somewhat confused by the information in the help file and don't want to lose
data.

Thank you.

I'd create a new PST file, create a Calendar folder therein if it isn't
created automatically - then change my "real" PST file's calendar view to
something in table layout, and then select the date range I wanted,
right-click/drag/release into the new calendar. I would probably copy, and
then if all goes well, delete the source - if you do a move, you run the
risk of losing something if the process is interrupted.

With regards to accessing that data on either computer - of course you'd
have to copy that PST file to the other PC once.

Were I in your sneakers, I'd create a new PST with File>New>Outlook Data
File (or Personal Folders File, depending on the Outlook version, which you
decided to keep a secret). I'd then create a calendar folder in in it with
File>New>Folder. I'd then open the main calendar, switch to a list view,
and sort by end date. I'd click the first item to select it and slide down
the list until I found the most recent one that fit my criteria (i.e., five
years ago, in your case), hold Shift, and click that last one, which would
select everything between the first and the last. Next I'd click the
selection and drag it to the Calendar folder in the new PST and release the
button. That will move every appointment and event in the selection and
place it in the new Calendar folder, removing it from the main Calendar.
I'd then compact the main PST.

You now have two PSTs containing Calendars, one with older data and one with
newer. Sneakernet them both to the second PC and place them there as you
usually do with the one. Now you'll have the old data on both PCs available
for use. You have to transport the older data only once, since it won't
change.

Thanks to both of you. Makes sense and I will do it.

Question: If I have two calendar files....calendar old and calendar new,
can I ever put them back together as a single file?

Note: using Office 2003.

Sure. Reverse the process, and copy from the old one(s) to the new/real one.
