This would indicate a corruption in your Navigation Pane settings. You can
reset it by starting Outlook with the resetnavpane switch;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resetnavpane
(note the space in the command)
In addition to that, see if you have all updates applied for Office 2003
already.
