I seem to have lost all these functions on my computer. When going to control
panel and trying to install i get error messages that say they are not
installed. I have no clue how to get them back into my OS and working again -

Posting the *exact* error message should help.

to answer your request, the exact error message is as follows:

"Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume
Control program has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove Programs
in Control Panel".

When I go to control panel it still will not let me add the components I am
missing - namely Accessories.

I hope this helps - this is very frustrating for me.
Thanks for your help.

Go to control panel---add/remove programs and on left side click windows
components. Then select accessories etc.

thank you and yes i have done that to no avail. I get a message about i386
and needing to insert a disk. Sorry to seem so stupid, but really have no
clue about what they want me to do.

Did you reboot after changes? Turn off--reboot---turn on reboot.
