My wife needs a Texas Instruments TI-83 calculator for her Statistics
class. I guess this is a rather special calculator with fantastic
functions. Are there any freeware equivalents available? Thanks.

Tell her to check eBay, and don't wait. At the end of each semester,
people start selling them, but they get snatched up the first week of the
new semester. I got one (a TI-83) for $10, and it even had new
batteries. :-)

English is a brawling, promiscuous drunkard of a language made up of
mispronounced and stolen words from other languages, and that's what
makes it such a glory to speak. Usage pecksniffs who try to tell you that
colorful, unambiguous, expressive turns of phrase or sentence structure
are incorrect are the worst kind of bores.
