Would a long CAT 5 cable (say 75 feet) yield a slower
internet connection that a short distance cable?

If so would a cat 5e or cat6 cable improve that?

Hi, the max length for Cat5/6/e is 305ft(100m).
This is given 100Mbit/s transferr. Your internet will
only need at most 10Mbit/s so it wont make any diffirence.

Cat6e is for gigabit line and wouldnt yield any
improvemnt. You could concevably run 1000m at 10Mbit cat5,
and 10000m 10Mbit Cat6e. These are generally
impracticale.

Id say it wont make any diffirence. 75 feet isnt a long
distance in networking.

Stuart.

speed of light and electricity 900,000,000 feet per second,
time to travel on either a 5 foot or a 75 foot wire almost
immeasurably short.

The factors that effect the connection are number of
computer on the circuit and the number of collisions of
packets.

Better cables have better shielding from outside noise,
requiring fewer retransmissions so overall performance might
improve.
