cable not recognized for network

I got 2 XPs connected and I always have the same problem.
Apparently, the cable doesn't seem to be recognized. I
always have the red cross over the network icon. Plus I
figured that maybe the cable was damaged so I tried
another one. Maybe both computers have to be configured
the same way? What do I have to do?

Hello

Well if you know that cable is good try replacing the network
card, that could be your problem, on of the cards in the pc could
be bad.

Are you connecting to a hub or directly from PC to PC? If directly from PC
to PC, then you need a crossover cable.
