I was trying to install DirectX 9.0c directly from Microsoft but at the end
of the installation then was an error saying "the cabinet file needed for
installation cannot be trusted." What do i do? How can i fix this problem?

(trying to play The Sims2)

It could be the installation files getting corrupted. Did you try to clear
the IE Cache folder and then re-download a copy of DirectX ?
