When trying to un install this message appearscaunst.exe has encounted a
problem and has to close.

You could try re-installing CA antivirus first from CD before
uninstalling it. 99% of the time when you reinstall any programs, you
get an option whether you want to repair it or uninstall it completely.

Try it and let us know what happens.

it's likely still active in memory
and the process is running.

disable the antiviral and disable
the startup inside msconfig, then
reboot and try again.
