c000007b stop.bad image

      22nd Jan 2005
running windows xp pro. system boots and goes to xp loading screen, then
window pops up saying, "stop. bad image,". i have tried searching for the
code that appears, "c000007b," but cant find it.page also refers to,
"\\??\c:\windows\system 32\sfc files.dll". i cant do anything even in safe
mode.what's happening?

at a guess, sfcfiles.dll has become corrupted for some reason. as MS don't
want any Tom, Dick or Harry replacing critical system files, if XP can't
check the files valiaidity, it blue screens.

try booting to recovery console of the cd and restoring the file using
expand
or
try a repair install
