This is the error message you get when the hardware -primarily the
mainboard - is changed with Win2000. Win2000, in contrast to win98, does not
load generic drivers for the IDE bus but only the specific drivers for the
chipset. If you want to move the harddisk to a new computer, you should run
a patch available from microsoft before shutting down and changing the
hardware. The patch installs the generic drivers for the next boot - and
only the next boot. The required drivers will then be loaded when the first
boot takes place on the new machine.
If you haven't changed hardware then the problem is probably in a corrupted
registry. Copy the backup registry - hoping you have one - into the root
directory.
