My 'c' drive appears nonexistent and when I try to load
some programs it repsonds that I am out of disk space when
there is plenty on my hard drive. How do I recover
the 'c' drive. It says the 'c' drive is a local drive and
I don't see a 'c' drive that I can use.

Have you explored My Computer, and ascertained the size/free space of any
drives?
Tried running; Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools Disk Cleanup?
Its always possible that yr disk is partitioned and the C: drive is fairly
small and since the default install of an app installs in the C: drive it
doesn't take long to fill up
